Meerut court sentences woman and lover to death for staging husband’s murder as snakebite

Meerut: A court in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, has sentenced a woman, Ravita, and her neighbour and lover, Amardeep, to death for murdering her husband and attempting to pass it off as a snakebite. The court had convicted the duo of murder and criminal conspiracy on October 7.

Amit Kashyap, also known as Mikky, was found dead at his home in Akbarpur Sadat village on April 12, 2025. His family initially suspected a snakebite after a snake was found trapped beneath his body. However, a post-mortem examination revealed that he had died of asphyxia caused by strangulation.

According to the prosecution, Ravita and Amardeep conspired to kill Kashyap and used the snake to mislead investigators. Examination of the snake reportedly revealed that its venom sac had been removed, further undermining the snakebite theory.

Mobile phone records, post-mortem findings and witness testimony played a key role in the case. The prosecution highlighted extensive communication between the two accused and sought the death penalty, citing the planned nature of the murder and the attempt to conceal the crime.
