Prime
Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Poonamallee–Vadapalani stretch of
Chennai Metro Phase II, built at a cost of around ₹4,900 crore, during his
visit to Tamil Nadu. He travelled between Porur Bypass and Poonamallee Bypass
stations, accompanied by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay.
The
Prime Minister also inaugurated and launched national highway projects worth
around ₹3,700 crore, including key
sections of NH-744 and NH-744A, and laid the foundation stone for the four-lane
Thiruvarur Bypass. Railway projects worth over ₹750 crore were also dedicated to the nation,
including the Karaikal-Peralam railway line, three rail flyovers and five Amrit
Stations.
Several
port development projects were inaugurated across Chennai Port, VO
Chidambaranar Port and Kamarajar Port to strengthen cargo handling, cruise
facilities and maritime infrastructure. Modi also laid the foundation stone for
a ₹1,620-crore lube oil base
stocks project at Chennai Petroleum Corporation Limited’s Manali Refinery.
In the research and education sector, Modi dedicated the Sudha Gopalakrishnan Brain Centre at IIT Madras and launched a global scientific mission to map more than 100 human brains. He also released C-STROKE, a human ischaemic stroke atlas, and attended the Golden Jubilee celebrations of Jaigopal Garodia Hindu Vidyalaya Matriculation Higher Secondary School in Chennai.
