The 20-year-old woman from Assam had travelled to Visakhapatnam with a dance troupe. She went missing while returning home by train and was later found dead beside a railway track in Andhra Pradesh’s Srikakulam district.
A
student of B Borooah College in Guwahati, the woman was returning to Assam to
attend a bank examination scheduled for October 10. According to her family,
she sent a message expressing fear over the large number of male passengers
surrounding her in the crowded train coach. Her phone later became unreachable,
prompting her family to alert the railway police and seek help through the
railway helpline.
Railway
police launched a search after her bag and belongings were found in the S2
coach of the Dibrugarh Vivek Express. Her body was subsequently recovered from
a forested area near Malayapuram in Srikakulam district. Police are examining
witness statements, CCTV footage and her communications before she went missing
to establish the circumstances surrounding her death.
Investigators have not yet determined whether she accidentally fell from the moving train or whether other circumstances were involved. Police are also attempting to identify an unidentified man reportedly seen with her at Visakhapatnam railway station. The post-mortem examination and further forensic investigation are expected to help establish the cause of death.
