India calls Russian attack on civilian cargo ship ‘completely unacceptable’

India has condemned a Russian drone attack on the Turkish-owned cargo vessel MV Royad Mammadov in the Black Sea, describing attacks on civilian shipping as “completely unacceptable.” Three Indian nationals were among the crew, with one initially reported injured and receiving medical treatment in Romania.

Indian Ambassador Manoj Mohapatra spoke with the three Indian nationals at Constanta County Hospital, where doctors confirmed that all three were in good health and receiving necessary care. The Indian mission said it remains in close contact with Romanian authorities and is providing all possible assistance to the crew members.

The attack reportedly killed two crew members, while Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the ship’s captain was among those killed. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar reiterated that dialogue and diplomacy remain the way forward to resolve the Russia-Ukraine conflict, amid growing concerns over attacks on commercial shipping in the Black Sea.
