A Gaza-bound flotilla, which is carrying humanitarian aid and includes Swedish activist Greta Thunberg, has reported that one of its boats was allegedly struck by a suspected drone in Tunisian waters.
The Global Sumud Flotilla for Gaza (GSF), comprising approximately 20 vessels with pro-Palestinian activists from 44 nations, aims to challenge Israel's naval blockade on the Gaza Strip.
The Portuguese-flagged vessel, which accommodates the steering committee of the flotilla, sustained fire damage to both its main deck and below-deck storage areas, as reported by the organizers. The GSF has confirmed via social media that "one of the main boats… was struck by what is suspected to be a drone," while also assuring that all individuals on board are safe.
Journalist Yusuf Omar, among the activists, described hearing "a big explosion" near the diesel tank, with neighboring boats spotting a drone that detonated above their vessel.
The flotilla had arrived in Tunisia over the weekend and was anchored approximately 80 km from the port of Sidi Bou Said when the incident allegedly occurred.
