Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called on residents of Gaza City to evacuate, as the military escalated its assault on the Palestinian territory's largest urban centre.

According to Gaza's civil defence agency, at least 39 people, including 25 in Gaza City, were killed by Israeli actions on Monday.

The Israeli forces have increased their bombardment of the city in preparation for an operation to seize control, despite ongoing pleas from Western nations and aid agencies to halt the attacks.

Netanyahu's warning came just hours after one of the deadliest civilian attacks in Jerusalem since the conflict began, where two Palestinian gunmen opened fire on a bus, resulting in the deaths of six people, as reported by Foreign Minister Gideon Saar.
