Health minister inaugurates International Nurses Day event as Qatar honours 28,732 licensed nurses

Doha, Qatar: Minister of Public Health HE Mansoor bin Ebrahim Al Mahmoud inaugurated the International Nurses Day event on Tuesday, organised by the ministry to celebrate nursing staff and emphasise their essential role in the healthcare sector. The event was attended by HE Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Suwaidi, Managing Director of Hamad Medical Corporation, and Dr. Ghanim Ali Al Mannai, Assistant Undersecretary for Healthcare Regulatory Affairs, along with leaders from the healthcare sector.

This year's celebration theme, "Our Nurses, Our Future… Empowered Nurses Save Lives," emphasises the importance of strengthening investment in nursing, improving working conditions, and highlighting the vital role of nursing in global healthcare. The number of licensed nurses in Qatar has reached 28,732, representing more than 48 percent of the country's healthcare workforce.

Jawaher Al Ali, Head of the Registration Section at the Ministry of Public Health, said nursing is a fundamental pillar of the healthcare system in Qatar and a key partner in achieving the ministry's strategic objectives. Maryam Al Mutawa, Chief Nursing Officer at HMC, said nursing and midwifery professionals play a vital role in delivering safe, high-quality care and supporting patients, families, and the wider community.

The Ministry of Public Health is undertaking several projects and initiatives aimed at bolstering the role of nursing staff, including establishing regulations, expanding nursing services, and optimising licensing and evaluation processes. The event featured awareness booths showcasing the importance of nursing within the healthcare sector.
