New Delhi: India finally got their hands on a winning trophy on Tuesday (October 14), but not the one everyone had been waiting for. After the Asia Cup 2025 triumph, where the team went unbeaten and clinched their record ninth title, the Indian players were left without the trophy during the post-match ceremony - an unusual and surprising situation that caught fans off guard.
More than two weeks after that emphatic win over Pakistan in the Asia Cup final, India’s wait for the actual trophy continues. However, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) ensured that the team didn’t go trophy-less for long.
Following India’s clean 2-0 sweep against the West Indies in the home Test series, BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla presented a gleaming trophy to captain Shubman Gill in a small but spirited ceremony. The gesture served as a symbolic moment of celebration for the team and the board, making up for the earlier disappointment.
BCCI also shared a 108-second video on its official X (formerly Twitter) handle, showing Gill and his teammates joyfully posing with the trophy. The video quickly went viral, marking a moment of pride for Indian cricket fans who had been waiting to see their heroes lift silverware once again.
While the Asia Cup trophy still remains out of sight, India’s latest win and the BCCI’s celebratory efforts ensured that the Men in Blue had a trophy in hand - and a reason to smile.
