India on Wednesday welcomed the ceasefire between the United States and Iran, expressing hope that the temporary truce will pave the way for lasting peace and stability in West Asia amid ongoing tensions in the region.
In a
statement, the Ministry of External Affairs reiterated India’s long-standing
position in favour of de-escalation, stressing that dialogue and diplomacy
remain essential to resolving the conflict and preventing further escalation.
The government also highlighted the wider humanitarian and economic impact of the crisis, noting that disruptions to global energy supply chains and trade routes - particularly through the Strait of Hormuz - underline the importance of ensuring safe and uninterrupted maritime navigation.
