Mumbai: A tragic accident in Maharashtra’s Nashik district claimed the lives of nine members of a family, including six children, after their car plunged into a roadside well while returning home. The incident occurred on Friday evening near Dindori, leaving the local community in shock.

According to reports, the victims, three adults and six children
from the Dargude family, had attended a programme organised by a coaching
centre in Dindori. After the event, they began their return journey to their
village, around 10 kilometres away, with Sunil Dargude (32) driving the
vehicle.
In an attempt to save time, the driver chose a shortcut route. However, the vehicle reportedly lost control, struck the wall of a roadside well, and fell into it. The well, filled with water up to nearly 40 feet, made rescue operations extremely difficult.

Local residents rushed to the scene after hearing the impact and
alerted emergency services. Firefighters and rescue teams used lights and
divers to locate and pull out the vehicle, but all occupants were found dead.
One of the children’s bodies was recovered outside the vehicle.
Police have registered a case citing negligence and rash driving, while also examining the role of the well’s owner and civic authorities. Reports suggest the well had remained open near the road for years due to an ongoing dispute. Following the tragedy, authorities have begun steps to fill the well and launched an investigation to prevent similar incidents in the future.
