India’s Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal concludes successful visit to Qatar, strengthening bilateral economic ties

Doha, October 7, 2025: India’s Minister of Commerce and Industry, H.E. Mr. Piyush Goyal, concluded his three-day official visit to Qatar on October 7, 2025. During his visit from October 5 - 7, Mr. Goyal paid a courtesy call on the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar, H.E. Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, where he conveyed the greetings of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Both leaders reaffirmed their shared commitment to strengthening the strategic partnership between India and Qatar, particularly in the fields of trade and investment.


On October 6, Mr. Goyal co-chaired the Joint Commission on Economic and Commercial Cooperation with H.E. Sheikh Faisal bin Thani bin Faisal Al Thani, Qatar’s Minister of Commerce and Industry. The two ministers also addressed the inaugural meeting of the Joint Business Council (JBC), jointly chaired by Qatar Chamber and FICCI. The discussions focused on enhancing economic collaboration, promoting joint ventures, and exploring new opportunities across key sectors. Both sides agreed to intensify efforts to double bilateral trade by 2030 and initiate Free Trade Agreement (FTA) negotiations.


During his visit, Mr. Goyal held meetings with H.E. Sheikh Bandar bin Mohammed bin Saoud Al Thani, Governor of Qatar Central Bank and Chairman of Qatar Investment Authority (QIA). He also met CEOs of major Qatari institutions, including Qatar Airways, QIA, Qatar Free Zones Authority, Qatar National Bank, and Qatar Development Bank. The discussions centered on strengthening financial cooperation, with both sides reiterating their commitment to achieving USD 10 billion in Qatari investments in India and the opening of a QIA office in India to facilitate deeper engagement.


The Minister also interacted with leading Qatari businessmen during the JBC sessions and a luncheon hosted by the Qatari Businessmen Association (QBA). Additionally, he met members of the Indian business community and professionals in Qatar and attended the launch ceremony of India’s UPI payment system at Lulu Hypermarket, marking a significant step toward enhancing financial connectivity between the two countries. Accompanied by a large business delegation from FICCI, CII, and ASSOCHAM, Mr. Goyal’s visit saw focused meetings with Invest Qatar, Qatar Free Zone Authority, and Qatar Science and Technology Park, exploring collaboration in manufacturing, technology, and innovation.

The visit of H.E. Mr. Piyush Goyal marks a new milestone in the evolving India-Qatar economic relationship, paving the way for greater collaboration and mutual growth. It is expected to foster stronger partnerships between businesses from both nations and accelerate joint efforts toward a deeper and more diversified economic partnership built on shared vision and prosperity.
