India's metro network achieves third-largest status globally

India has marked a significant achievement by making its metro network the third-largest in the world. This milestone follows the recent launch of new metro projects and the introduction of the Namo Bharat initiative for Delhi.

The journey of India's metro system began in 2002, when former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee inaugurated the modern metro service in Delhi. Since then, the network has experienced remarkable growth.

In the past decade alone, the metro network has expanded by an impressive 1,000 kilometres, increasing the number of states offering metro services from five to eleven. Furthermore, the number of cities having metro connectivity has surged from five to an impressive 23.
