Air India flight with 242 on board crashes in Ahmedabad; no survivors

Ahmedabab: In a devastating aviation disaster, an Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner flight bound for London crashed shortly after take-off from Ahmedabad airport this afternoon, killing all 242 people on board. The aircraft, operating as Flight AI 171, was carrying 232 passengers and 10 crew members, including nationals from India, the UK, Canada, and Portugal.

Eyewitness videos captured the aircraft struggling to gain altitude before slamming into a medical college hostel at 1:38 pm, erupting into a massive fireball. The impact also claimed the lives of five students inside the hostel. Debris pierced through the dining hall walls, and scenes of untouched food on plates revealed the suddenness of the tragedy.

Officials confirmed that there were no survivors. The DGCA reported a mayday call from the cockpit moments before the crash, but no further communication was received. Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu stated he is personally monitoring the situation and has urged for coordinated emergency efforts. A passenger information hotline has been set up at 1800 5691 444.
