Iran’s national
football team has been granted US visas just 10 days before its opening FIFA
World Cup match against New Zealand in Los Angeles on June 15, according to
White House officials. The move comes amid ongoing tensions and military
conflict between Iran and the United States.
While visas for the
players have been approved, reports indicate that some members of Iran’s
technical and administrative staff are still awaiting clearance. US Ambassador
to Türkiye Tom Barrack confirmed the visa approvals, praising embassy officials
for their efforts in processing the applications.
Iran is scheduled to base its World Cup preparations in Tijuana, Mexico, before travelling to the United States for matches against New Zealand, Belgium and Egypt. Iranian officials said the country’s participation in the tournament reflects its commitment to peace despite strained relations with Washington.
