Doha:
Lady Mayor of the City of London, Dame Susan Langley, has described the
economic partnership between Qatar and the United Kingdom as strong, trusted
and built for the long term. In an interview with Qatar News Agency (QNA)
during her first visit to Doha, she highlighted opportunities to strengthen
investment ties and expand cooperation in finance, technology, infrastructure
and sustainable development.
Langley
said London could connect Qatari investors with investment opportunities across
the UK, particularly in financial services, FinTech, clean energy, life
sciences and Islamic finance. She also highlighted the potential to expand the
sukuk market and attract more international investors, while noting that the
GCC-UK free trade agreement, once it enters into force, could simplify trade
and improve market access for businesses, including small and medium-sized
enterprises.
She further highlighted UK initiatives designed to help investors identify investment opportunities and access tailored support. Expressing optimism about future cooperation, Langley said she hoped her visit would lead to increased investment and stronger links between businesses and institutions in both countries, bringing Doha and London closer in finance, technology and sustainable growth.
