MoPH launches asthma awareness campaign to promote early detection and management

Doha, Qatar: The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) has introduced a new awareness campaign to combat asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), emphasizing the importance of early detection and timely medical care. The initiative aims to improve respiratory health by educating the public about asthma triggers and preventive measures, empowering individuals to manage symptoms effectively and reduce the risk of severe flare-ups.

Sheikh Dr. Mohamed bin Hamad Al Thani, Director of the Non-Communicable Diseases Prevention Programs Department, highlighted the urgency of addressing asthma, which affects 19.8% of schoolchildren and 9% of adults in Qatar. He emphasized that the campaign underscores the Ministry’s commitment to providing support for patients and their families. Key strategies include recognizing asthma triggers—such as dust mites, smoke, and high humidity—and adhering to prescribed treatments to prevent attacks and maintain an active lifestyle.

The Ministry has stressed the importance of lifestyle adjustments, such as maintaining a clean environment and avoiding triggers, to manage asthma effectively. With proper knowledge, medication, and preventive care, individuals with asthma can lead healthy, fulfilling lives, ensuring improved overall respiratory health for the community.
