Nakilat says LNG carrier attacked in Arabian Gulf, crew safe

Doha: Qatar Gas Transport Company Limited (Nakilat) said its liquefied natural gas carrier, Al Mayeda, was attacked by unidentified objects while sailing in the Arabian Gulf on Friday evening. In a statement published on the Qatar Stock Exchange, the company confirmed that none of the crew members were injured and that the incident had no environmental impact.

Nakilat said the vessel is safe and operational, and that an assessment of the incident is underway. The company added that it is maintaining direct coordination with the vessel and its crew, as well as with relevant maritime security authorities in the region, to ensure the crew's safety.

The company said it is closely monitoring developments following the attack. Nakilat is a Qatari public shareholding company and one of the world's largest LNG shipping operators.

The incident comes amid heightened tensions in the region and follows recent disruptions to shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, a key route for global energy trade.
