PHCC marks International Infection Prevention Week from October 18-24

Doha: Primary Health Care Corporation is organising activities to mark International Infection Prevention Week from October 18 to 24, 2026, under the theme "Generations of Infection Prevention | Past. Present. Protected."

The theme reflects the journey of infection prevention through time, from practices passed down through generations and lessons learned from the past, through contemporary scientific applications, to protecting patients, healthcare workers, communities, and future generations.

The campaign's organising committee has identified key objectives, including raising awareness among healthcare workers and visitors about basic infection prevention practices, promoting a culture of adherence to hand hygiene and environmental disinfection, highlighting Islamic civilisational and medical heritage in infection prevention, and encouraging early reporting of infection cases.

Manager of Health Protection at PHCC Dr. Khalid Elawad emphasised that infection prevention and control is a key pillar in ensuring patient safety and the quality of healthcare services. He noted that infection prevention is not a modern concept but a journey extending throughout history, with practices evolving from hygiene and isolation into a comprehensive, evidence-based system for protecting individuals and communities.

PHCC implements a comprehensive infection prevention and control programme across its facilities, including standard precautions, hand hygiene, appropriate use of personal protective equipment, safe injection practices, environmental cleaning, and safe waste management, alongside continuous education. PHCC health centres will participate through educational and interactive activities targeting employees, patients, visitors, school students, and recipients of Home Health Care Services, including lectures, workshops, competitions, and awareness messages on hand hygiene, cough etiquette, vaccination, and safe injection practices. Awareness materials will also be shared through PHCC's official channels and social media platforms, with feedback gathered to assess the campaign's impact.
