Qatar Awqaf designates 205 mosques for Itikaf during Ramadan

Doha, Qatar: The Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs (Awqaf) has designated 205 mosques across the country for the observance of Itikaf during the last ten days of Ramadan 1446 AH. Itikaf, a spiritual retreat observed in mosques, allows worshipers to dedicate themselves to prayer and devotion. The Ministry has urged those intending to participate to understand the religious guidelines, ensuring their practice aligns with the teachings of the Prophet (PBUH).

The selection of mosques was based on various criteria, including their geographical distribution, congregational capacity, and readiness to accommodate worshipers. The Ministry has set an age requirement of at least 18 years for individuals performing Itikaf. However, children as young as 8 years old may participate if accompanied by a guardian. These measures aim to create a well-organized and spiritually enriching environment for worshipers.

To maintain the sanctity of the mosques, the Ministry has issued guidelines emphasizing cleanliness and respect for mosque property. Worshipers are required to maintain personal hygiene, keep the Itikaf areas tidy, and avoid unnecessary conversations that may disturb others. Additionally, hanging clothes on mosque walls, columns, or structures has been strictly prohibited to preserve the sacred and orderly environment of the mosques.

Furthermore, the Ministry has designated specific areas for sleeping and eating, which must be adhered to by all participants. It also reiterated that women are not permitted to perform Itikaf in mosques. By implementing these measures, Awqaf aims to ensure a smooth and spiritually fulfilling experience for worshipers observing Itikaf across Qatar.
