US approves $8.6 billion arms sales to four Middle East allies

Washington: The US State Department has approved military sales worth over $8.6 billion to Israel, Kuwait, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates, bypassing congressional review as diplomatic efforts between Washington and Tehran remain stalled.

According to reports citing the State Department, the package includes advanced precision kill weapon systems, air and missile defence replenishment services, and an integrated battle command system.

The announcement comes as President Donald Trump told lawmakers that the war against Tehran has "terminated." In a letter to congressional leaders, Trump noted that there has been no exchange of fire between the US and Iran since April 7, 2026, and that hostilities that began on February 28 have ended.

However, Trump also said negotiations with Iran remain uncertain, warning that he is "not satisfied" with current proposals while keeping both diplomacy and military action on the table. He described Iran's leadership as "fragmented" and "very disjointed," arguing that internal divisions are weakening Tehran's negotiating position.
