Vance defends Iran deal, warns Israel against undermining peace efforts

US Vice President JD Vance sharply criticized Israeli officials who opposed the newly announced US-Iran peace agreement, urging them to "wake up and smell the reality" and recognize Israel's growing international isolation. He said President Donald Trump remains Israel's strongest global ally and warned against attacking Washington's diplomatic efforts.

Vance specifically responded to criticism from Israeli ministers Itamar Ben Gvir and Bezalel Smotrich, questioning their alternative strategy and arguing that military action alone cannot solve long-term security challenges. He also highlighted the extensive US military support that has helped protect Israel.

Defending the agreement, Vance said the 60-day negotiation period with Iran had begun and stressed that sanctions relief would depend on changes in Iran's behavior. The deal includes measures such as reopening the Strait of Hormuz and easing some restrictions on Iran's oil exports.

The remarks come amid growing opposition to the agreement from Israeli leaders and some US Republicans. Critics argue the deal provides economic benefits to Iran without adequately limiting its nuclear ambitions, while Vance insisted the agreement offers the best path toward regional stability and peace.
