A
new round of direct talks between the United States and Iran has been postponed
after US Vice-President JD Vance delayed a planned visit to Switzerland. The
White House said logistical arrangements for the discussions had not been
“simple or predictable” and confirmed that the meeting schedule had not yet
been finalized.
The
postponement comes just days after Washington and Tehran signed an agreement
aimed at ending months of conflict, prompting the United States to lift its
naval blockade of Iran. Officials had expected the next round of talks to focus
on technical discussions regarding the implementation of the deal.
Meanwhile,
tensions remain high in the region. Lebanon’s health ministry reported that at
least 18 people were killed in overnight Israeli strikes in the country’s
south. Israel said it targeted positions linked to Hezbollah, while also
confirming that four of its soldiers were killed. Despite the delay, the White
House said it remains committed to beginning technical talks with Iran as soon as
possible.
