Zelensky condemns Trump’s deal to import Russian diesel into US

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has criticised US President Donald Trump’s deal to import Russian diesel, calling it an “investment in a war that must be ended, not prolonged”.

Trump said Russia had agreed to release 300,000 tonnes of diesel immediately, followed by 500,000 tonnes in November and further supplies. The US Treasury has reportedly temporarily suspended sanctions on Russian diesel exports until April 7 as part of the agreement.

Zelensky warned that Russia would use the revenue to continue its aggression against Ukraine, urging Washington to maintain strong pressure on Moscow. Russian President Vladimir Putin confirmed Russia’s willingness to supply oil and petroleum products to the US and global markets.

However, analysts questioned whether Russia could deliver the promised quantities and whether the deal would significantly reduce US fuel prices. The agreement comes amid rising energy costs linked to the Iran war, with the average US diesel price reaching $6.28 per gallon.
