No Exceptions for vehicle registration renewal, warns Qatar’s Traffic Department

Doha, Qatar: The General Traffic Department has firmly stated that there will be no exceptions to the vehicle registration renewal deadline, warning that failure to comply may lead to the vehicle being removed from the official registry. The announcement was made by Lieutenant Colonel Hamad Ali Al-Muhannadi, Head of the Registration Section at the Licensing Affairs Department, during an interview with the Hayatna program on Qatar TV.

He emphasized that the law will be enforced on all vehicles without exception. Al-Muhannadi reassured vehicle owners of the ease and efficiency of the renewal process, noting that technical inspections typically take 10 to 15 minutes, insurance procedures can be completed online, and registration renewal is now more accessible via the Metrash app. He also highlighted the app’s features, which allow users to check and dispute traffic violations with ease.

The directive, which took effect from July 27, 2025, gives owners of vehicles with expired registrations 30 days to regularize their status. This move directly refers to vehicles that have exceeded the legal registration period defined in Article (11) of Traffic Law No. (19) of 2007. The General Directorate of Traffic urged all affected vehicle owners to act promptly to avoid penalties and legal consequences.
