Doha, Qatar: The Organizing Committee of the FIBA Basketball World Cup Qatar 2027, in partnership with the Qatar School Sports Association (QSSA), announced the inaugural Basketball Mini World Cup. This groundbreaking event, set to take place in Doha over two seasons (2025-2026 and 2026-2027), marks the first initiative of its kind in the Middle East.
The announcement was made at a press conference held at the Qatar Olympic Committee's Al Waibah Hall, attended by dignitaries including H.E. Director of QOC's Sports Sector and President of QSSA, Sheikh Khalifa bin Khalid Al-Thani, as well as the Director General of the Organizing Committee of the FIBA Basketball World Cup Qatar 2027 and President of the Qatar Basketball Federation, Mohammed Saad Almeghaiseeb, alongside other officials.
The tournament is part of the School Olympic Program and is organized under FIBA's supervision in partnership with the Qatar Basketball Federation. It aims to replicate the competitive format of the FIBA Basketball World Cup Qatar 2027, offering a unique school-level simulation of this global sporting spectacle.
As a prelude to the much-anticipated event, the Basketball Mini World Cup will feature 32 secondary school teams from across Qatar. Competing under their schools' banners in the first season, running from November 4, 2025, to the end of April 2026, they will simulate the qualified national teams in the second season, aligning with the 2026-2027 Olympic Program.
