Wayanad and Maps Kozhikode seal big wins as first round concludes; Kannur and Travancore exit QIFF Super Cup

Doha, Qatar: The QIFF Super Cup 2025 delivered another exciting matchday as the first round came to a close on Friday, featuring two crucial encounters that reshaped the tournament standings.

In the day’s opening match, Wayanad Koottam edged out Travancore FC with a hard-fought 1–0 victory. After a goalless first half, the tension rose in the 40th minute when Travancore earned a penalty. However, their No.10 Regan’s attempt was brilliantly denied by Wayanad goalkeeper Haxalin Devi, keeping the game level.
Wayanad capitalized on the momentum, and in the 55th minute, No.10 Abis Risho found the breakthrough, securing the only goal of the match. For his outstanding performance, especially the crucial penalty save, Haxalin Devi was named Man of the Match.

The second match saw Maps Kozhikode continue their dominant form with a commanding 3–0 win over Hot & Cool Kannur. Star striker Muzammil (Jersey No.16) shone once again, scoring two goals, while Kuttippa (Jersey No.8) added another to complete the victory. Muzammil’s consistent brilliance earned him the Man of the Match award.

With today’s results, Hot & Cool Kannur and Travancore FC have been eliminated from the tournament. The first round officially concludes with teams from Malappuram and Thrissur advancing directly to the semi-finals, having topped the points table.

The second round matches are scheduled for next Friday, where the remaining four teams-Kozhikode, Kasaragod, Wayanad, and Ernakulam-will battle it out in the play-offs. The winners of these matches will claim the final two spots in the semi-finals, setting the stage for an intense knockout phase.
