The UN World Food Programme (WFP) has called for the opening of all border crossings into the Gaza Strip, emphasizing that addressing famine in the besieged enclave requires time.
WFP spokesperson Abeer Etefa, speaking at a Geneva press briefing, revealed that famine has been present in parts of Gaza since late August. Currently, five distribution centers are operational, aiming to expand to 145 centers to provide food to residents.
Etefa noted that an average of 560 tonnes of food aid has entered Gaza daily since the ceasefire, but this falls short of the necessary amount. Access to Gaza City and the northern region remains challenging due to damaged or blocked roads in the war-torn south.
She highlighted that 57 trucks reached southern and central Gaza yesterday, marking a milestone, though still below the target of 80 to 100 trucks per day.
