Doha, Qatar: The
Ministry of Municipality, in collaboration with Souq Waqif Management, has
announced the winners of the "Best Date Basket" competition during
the 10th Local Date Festival. The event, which showcases top-quality local
produce, saw strong participation from Qatari farms. In the Khalas category,
Abdulhadi Suleiman Haidar’s farm secured first place, followed by the heirs of
Khalil Mansour Al Hajri in second, and the heirs of Abdulhamid Al Ansari in
third. In the Shishi category, the top three winners were the farms of Ali
Ibrahim Al Malki, Yousef Ahmed Al Taher, and Sheikh Nasser bin Jassim Al-Thani.
Since
the festival began, date sales have crossed 115,300 kilograms, including major
varieties such as Khalas, Shishi, Khunaizi, and Barhi. The event also recorded
the sale of 1,423 kilograms of fruit, reflecting growing consumer demand for
local agricultural products.
Held at the eastern square of Souq Waqif, the festival has attracted around 58,400 visitors so far. Running until August 7, it continues to serve as a key platform to support local farmers, promote food security, and highlight Qatar’s agricultural excellence.
