A tourist boat returning from an island trip in southern Vietnam capsized on Saturday, resulting in the deaths of 15 Indian visitors, according to state media.
The speedboat, carrying 32 Indian tourists and four crew members, overturned approximately 400 meters from Hon May Rut Ngoai Island, near Vietnam's largest island, Phu Quoc, as authorities reported.
Witnesses informed VN Express that nearby boats immediately rushed to the scene to rescue passengers from the water, with border guards, the navy, coast guard, and other rescue agencies arriving shortly thereafter. The rescue efforts were challenging due to many individuals being trapped inside, VN Express noted.
Authorities confirmed that 21 people were successfully rescued and all deceased individuals have been recovered. The injured were promptly transported to hospitals for treatment.
