Maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz has slowed dramatically following a second consecutive day of US strikes against Iran, with reports indicating that shipping activity has nearly come to a standstill.
According to ship-tracking data cited by Bloomberg, only a US-sanctioned supertanker and an Iranian-flagged container ship were seen leaving the Gulf among larger vessels. Just 14 cargo ships crossed the strategic waterway in both directions on Tuesday.
The figure marks the lowest level of traffic since the US-Iran memorandum of understanding on June 16. In the three weeks following the interim agreement, the Strait of Hormuz had recorded an average of 34 ship transits per day, highlighting the sharp decline amid escalating regional tensions.
