Kochi: Santhakumari (90), mother of renowned Malayalam actor Mohanlal, passed away on Tuesday. She had been undergoing treatment for age-related health issues and was staying at Mohanlal’s residence in Elamakkara, Kochi.

Her husband, Viswanathan Nair, had passed away earlier. The couple’s elder son, Pyarilal, died in 2000.

Mohanlal shared a deep and affectionate bond with his mother and, despite his demanding professional commitments, always ensured her personal care and comfort.

Santhakumari was known to be a strong influence in Mohanlal’s life and career, a fact the actor has often spoken about. Recently, Mohanlal had described it as a blessing to share his prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award with his mother, noting that she was the first person he visited after receiving the honour.
