Bengaluru nurse attacked with machete and acid near clinic; husband arrested

Bengaluru: A 26-year-old nurse, Madhumitha, was allegedly chased and attacked by her husband, Venkatesan, near a private clinic in Bengaluru’s JP Nagar 3rd Phase on Thursday morning. She had stepped out for breakfast around 9.15 am when the accused chased her to the clinic’s basement parking area.

Police said Venkatesan arrived on a bike carrying a knife, a machete and acid. He attacked Madhumitha with the machete and threw acid at her before trying to flee. The woman raised an alarm, prompting hospital staff and local residents to intervene. Some people tried to protect her by throwing stones, but the accused also attempted to attack them.

Traffic police posted at a nearby signal noticed the commotion and apprehended Venkatesan as he tried to escape. Madhumitha, who suffered serious injuries, is currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital.

The JP Nagar police visited the spot and took Venkatesan into custody. He is being questioned to ascertain the exact motive behind the attack, which caused panic among onlookers and passersby in the area.
