Iran president, UAE Crown Prince meet on BRICS sidelines, call for restraint in West Asia

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian met Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit in New Delhi, in the highest-level meeting between the two countries since the outbreak of the West Asia conflict.

The leaders discussed regional and international developments, with a focus on de-escalation, stability and efforts to promote peace and development in the region, according to the Abu Dhabi Media Office. The meeting comes amid heightened tensions between Iran and several countries in the region.

Earlier, Iran and the UAE joined other BRICS members in adopting a joint statement expressing deep concern over the escalating situation in West Asia. The declaration urged all sides to exercise maximum restraint, avoid actions that could further aggravate the conflict and protect civilians.

The meeting between Pezeshkian and Sheikh Khaled is being seen as an important diplomatic engagement at a time of growing regional tensions. With India hosting the BRICS summit, the gathering has provided an opportunity for regional leaders to maintain dialogue and explore avenues for de-escalation.
