Dubai unveils first flying taxi vertiport, DXV,near Dubai airport

Dubai: Dubai’s first flying taxi vertiport, Dubai International Vertiport (DXV), will be located near Dubai International Airport (DXB), with commercial air taxi operations set to launch in early 2026. Developed by UK-based Skyports in partnership with Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), DXV is the first of four planned vertiports under the UAE’s newly established Vertiport Regulations. This milestone follows design approval from the UAE’s General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), marking significant progress since the groundbreaking in late 2024.

The three-story DXV facility will span 3,100 square meters, support up to 170,000 passengers annually, and feature two landing areas for electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft and helicopters. Equipped with rapid charging technology, the vertiport is designed to handle up to 10 aircraft landings per hour, ensuring efficient operations. Additional vertiports are planned for Palm Jumeirah, Dubai Downtown, and Dubai Marina, expanding the city’s advanced air mobility network.

Duncan Walker, CEO of Skyports, emphasized the groundbreaking nature of the project, stating it redefines urban travel. Saif Mohammed Al Suwaidi, GCAA Director General, hailed the initiative as a testament to the UAE’s leadership in innovative aviation solutions. DXV’s design ensures scalability to meet future demands, aligning with Dubai’s vision for a smart and sustainable transportation future.
