Doha:
INCAS Qatar Central Committee has submitted a memorandum to NORKA authorities,
urging them to address the concerns of expatriates following a significant increase
in the premium for renewing NORKA Care health insurance.
INCAS
Central Committee President Siddique Purayil and Vice-President V.S. Abdul
Rahman visited the NORKA office and handed over the memorandum to General
Manager Prakash P. Joseph. They highlighted the financial difficulties faced by
ordinary expatriates due to the increased premium and expressed concerns over
the possibility of losing their existing insurance coverage.
During
the meeting, Prakash P. Joseph explained that insurance claims had exceeded the
premium collections and that the absence of long-term agreements had created
challenges for insurance companies in continuing the scheme. He also pointed
out that insurance companies had shown reluctance to provide new coverage under
the existing arrangements.
He
further assured the delegation that matters including the exemption of GST on
NORKA Care insurance premiums were under the consideration of the government.
He also said that the concerns raised in the memorandum would be considered
sympathetically.
INCAS
leaders stated that the present difficulties stemmed from the previous
government's decision to implement the scheme in haste, without adequate
preparatory work or long-term agreements with insurance companies. They added
that spreading misinformation against the current government, which has been in
office for only six months, for political purposes would not serve the broader
interests of the expatriate community.
The leaders reiterated that INCAS Qatar would continue to work beyond political differences to protect the health security and financial interests of expatriates and would continue to raise their concerns with the government.
