When Al Jazeera began broadcasting on November 1, 1996, he was its first employee, carrying staff number 101. A graduate in Islamic studies from Umarabad, Abdul Majeed began his professional life as a teacher at Tirurkkad Ilahiya College. He later moved to Qatar and joined the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs, where he served as an imam and was also involved in mosque maintenance activities. Alongside his professional responsibilities, his interest in exploring new fields encouraged him to pursue computer studies during his free time.

His growing interest in technology opened new opportunities, eventually leading him to a position at Qatar's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where he worked under Mahmoud Al-Sahlawi. In 1995, Al-Sahlawi, who was involved in preparations for the establishment of Al Jazeera, invited him to join the emerging media venture. The opportunity marked a turning point in Abdul Majeed's career and placed him at the beginning of a remarkable chapter in international media history.

Abdul Majeed served in Al Jazeera's Human Resources Department for 18 years. He currently works as the Office Manager to the Director of Al Jazeera Live, continuing his association with the organisation and witnessing its growth and evolution over the decades. From its formative days to its position as an internationally recognised media network, he has remained closely connected with its journey.

Abdul Majeed Alakkathodi's journey from the rural surroundings of Vadakkangara to the international media world is a story of perseverance, continuous learning and recognising opportunities. His professional path, spanning education, religious affairs, government service and international broadcasting, reflects the value of dedication and adaptability. As Al Jazeera celebrates three decades, his achievement stands as more than a personal milestone - it is a proud testament to the talent, determination and hard work of Malayalis on the global stage.
