New Delhi: India has been invited by U.S. President Donald Trump to be part of the proposed Board of Peace for Gaza, sources in New Delhi said on Sunday, January 18, 2026. The invitation was also confirmed after the U.S. Ambassador to India, Sergio Gor, shared a letter from President Trump to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on social media, formally inviting India to participate in the initiative.
According
to officials, New Delhi has received the invitation but has not yet responded.
The Board of Peace is a central element of President Trump’s peace plan for
Gaza and is expected to supervise a temporary transitional governance structure
in the territory, as Hamas is pressured to relinquish its governing role.
President Trump had announced earlier that the Board had been formed, with
members to be revealed shortly.
Under
the plan, Gaza would be administered by a technocratic and apolitical Palestinian committee
comprising local and international experts, operating under the supervision of
the Board of Peace. The Board, to be chaired by President Trump, is expected to
include other heads of state and senior international figures, including former
UK Prime Minister Tony
Blair, and will oversee funding for Gaza’s redevelopment until
reforms by the Palestinian Authority are completed.
Meanwhile, the United States is also working with partners to establish a temporary International Stabilisation Force (ISF) for Gaza. Indian officials have clarified that India would not participate in the ISF as it is not a UN-mandated peacekeeping mission. India continues to reiterate its long-standing support for a two-state solution, calling for the creation of an independent Palestinian state existing alongside Israel as the path to lasting peace.
