New Delhi: President
Droupadi Murmu is conferring the Padma Awards today, June 23, at Rashtrapati
Bhavan. A total of 65 individuals are being honoured at the second Civil
Investiture Ceremony, including 2 Padma Vibhushan, 7 Padma Bhushan, and 56
Padma Shri awardees. Earlier, 66 recipients were conferred with the Padma
Awards during the first ceremony held on May 26.
Celebrities and
awardees arrived in the national capital, New Delhi, ahead of the prestigious
ceremony. Veteran Malayalam actor Mammootty reached Delhi on Tuesday morning
accompanied by his family, including his son, actor Dulquer Salmaan.
Mammootty was later
conferred with the Padma Bhushan, one of India’s highest civilian honours,
in recognition of his outstanding contribution to Indian cinema and society.
His wife Sulfath and daughter Surumi were also present at the ceremony,
witnessing the proud moment.
With a career
spanning over five decades, Mammootty has acted in more than 400 films across
multiple languages, establishing himself as one of Indian cinema’s most
respected and enduring figures. Beyond acting, he is also known for his
involvement in social and charitable initiatives.
Reacting to the honour, the actor expressed his gratitude, reportedly stating that “there is nothing greater than the honour from the nation,” as per media reports.
