The Indian Navy marked International Day of Yoga 2026 with a unique underwater yoga session at INS Satvahana, in which around 40 submariners performed synchronised yoga exercises deep underwater.
The
visuals, shared on X by INS Satvahana, showed personnel performing poses such
as bhujangasana in a display of exceptional breath control, concentration, and
endurance. The session was conducted by Naval Yoga practitioners under the
guidance of Lieutenant Commander Aarush Sharma, combining controlled breathing,
mindful movement, and mental conditioning to enhance performance in
high-pressure conditions.
Naval
officials said such practice strengthens focus, resilience, and composure, and
enhances underwater operations. The initiative reflected the Navy's broader
focus on holistic fitness and mental well-being.
The United Nations proclaimed June 21 as the International Day of Yoga in 2014, following a proposal introduced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and supported by 175 member states.
