Doha: In line with its ongoing efforts to enhance public safety and preserve community tranquillity, Qatar’s Ministry of Interior (MoI) has reiterated strict regulations governing vehicle noise levels across the country. The Ministry emphasized that all motorists must comply with approved standards, warning that violations will result in legal accountability.
The
MoI clarified that all vehicles, including cars and motorcycles, are subject to
the same noise regulations, regardless of their type or category. Compliance is
determined through precise sound measurements using approved technical
equipment.
According
to the Ministry, the maximum permissible noise level for vehicles must not
exceed 79 decibels (dB), as per standards set by the Qatar General Organization
for Standards and Metrology. These measurements are carried out using certified
devices, including handheld instruments and advanced sound-detection radars, as
well as during mandatory technical inspections such as Fahes.
The
Ministry also stressed that high-performance or sports vehicles are not exempt
from these rules. Regardless of their engine specifications or sound
characteristics, all vehicles must strictly adhere to the approved noise
limits.
Any
modification that increases vehicle noise-such as tampering with the exhaust
system, removing the muffler, applying sound-enhancing programming, or using
the vehicle for show-off purposes-will be considered a violation. The Ministry
confirmed that such actions will lead to legal consequences irrespective of the
vehicle type.
Additionally,
the MoI highlighted that vehicles supplied by authorised dealers must comply
with technical specifications. If any vehicle exceeds the permitted noise
level, owners are required to approach authorised dealers to make necessary
adjustments and ensure compliance.
These
regulations are enforced in accordance with Circular No. (3) of 2023, issued by
the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, which addresses vehicle noise pollution
and ensures coordinated enforcement among relevant authorities.
The
Ministry of Interior has urged all residents and motorists to strictly follow
the rules, stressing that adherence is essential to maintaining public safety,
reducing noise pollution, and ensuring a peaceful community environment.
