Doha: The Ministry of Interior has urged citizens licensed to possess or carry firearms not to lend, hand over, or otherwise allow any other person to possess their firearms, regardless of their relationship to the licence holder.

The ministry stressed that a firearms licence is personal and legally restricted to the licence holder. Handing over or lending a firearm, or allowing an unlicensed person to possess one, constitutes a violation of Law No. 14 of 1999 on Weapons, Ammunition and Explosives, as amended.

Violations could subject both the licence holder and the unlicensed person in possession of the firearm to criminal liability and legally prescribed penalties, including imprisonment and a fine. The measures also include revocation of the firearms licence and confiscation of the firearm, while the licence holder will be barred from obtaining any firearms licence in the future.

The ministry reiterated that it would take necessary legal measures against anyone found to have violated applicable laws and instructions, stressing that the measures are aimed at safeguarding the security and stability of society.
