MoPH issues heat stress prevention tips as summer temperatures soar in Qatar

Doha: The soaring temperatures in Qatar have prompted the Ministry of Public Health to issue tips to protect community members from heat stress while outdoors.

The ministry advises:

  • Drink cool water every 15–20 minutes
  • Avoid tea, coffee, energy drinks, and soft drinks
  • Take breaks in a shady or cool place
  • Eat healthy and light
  • Wear light and loose clothing
  • Keep your head covered when outdoors

The tips have been published in several languages, including English, Arabic, Urdu, and other Asian languages, to ensure maximum reach among the expatriate labour community. The Ministry of Labour prohibits outdoor work in open areas between 10am and 3:30pm during summer - a regulation applicable until September 15 that requires employers to adjust work schedules to ensure labourers are not exposed to direct sunlight.
