Norka Care Plus: Membership period should be extended, says Pravasi Welfare

Doha, Qatar: The state committee of Pravasi Welfare has demanded an extension of the enrollment period for Norka Care Plus, the comprehensive health and accident insurance scheme implemented by Norka Roots under the Kerala government for expatriates and their family members. The organisation said the current enrollment deadline of September 18 should be extended to ensure that more expatriates can benefit from the scheme.

Pravasi Welfare Qatar pointed out that many expatriates are currently unable to take membership due to the financial crisis, reduced income, job losses and other difficulties arising from the prevailing situation in the Gulf region. Extending the enrollment period, it said, would provide such expatriates with an opportunity to secure health and accident insurance coverage for themselves and their families.

The organisation has called for urgent government intervention to extend the deadline and ensure wider access to Norka Care Plus. It also demanded that, during the next renewal, existing members be given an opportunity to make changes to their premium or insurance slab and that new members be allowed to enroll. The demand was raised by Pravasi Welfare & Cultural Forum Qatar, associated with the Indian Cultural Centre under the aegis of the Embassy of India.
