Doha: The 15th edition of the Ooredoo Doha
Marathon is expected to attract about 25,000 runners when it takes place on
January 15, 2027, organisers have announced, making it the largest edition of
the marathon to date.
The 2027 race will feature a new 42-kilometre
full-marathon route starting at Sheraton Hotel Park and running along Doha
Corniche before passing several city landmarks, including Souq Waqif and Doha
Port. Organisers said the new route will be completed without repeated sections
or laps. For the first time, the event will also include a 42-kilometre relay
race, with teams of three or four runners each covering a designated section of
the course.
The 15th edition will feature the full
marathon, relay race, 21-kilometre half marathon, 10km and 5km races, as well
as a family run. Prizes will include the Al Adaam category for Qatari runners,
alongside new awards for Arab runners.
The Ooredoo Doha Marathon has held a World Athletics Gold Label for three consecutive years, while organisers are continuing efforts to secure Platinum Label status. The 2026 edition attracted more than 20,000 runners representing 160 nationalities, including 2,200 participants from outside Qatar, with Olympic champion Tamirat Tola setting a new course record of 2 hours, 5 minutes, and 40 seconds.
