India
have refused to attend the Women's Asia Cup 2026 trophy presentation ceremony
after their record-extending title triumph, with the team choosing not to
receive the trophy from Pakistan Cricket Board chief and Asian Cricket Council
chairman Mohsin Naqvi.
More
than 30 minutes passed after the final before the presentation began. During
the delay, the Indian players held an on-field huddle with BCCI secretary
Devajit Saikia and vice-president Rajeev Shukla before returning to the
dressing room. They did not come back for the ceremony, while Sri Lanka
received their runners-up awards.
Naqvi later walked out of the stadium midway through the presentation after handing over the runners-up cheque to Sri Lanka captain Chamari Athapaththu. Loud reactions from the crowd followed his departure, with fan videos showing the unusual end to a trophy ceremony in which the champions were not present.
