A passenger plane with 49 people on board, including five children, crashed on Thursday near the town of Tynda in Russia’s far eastern Amur region. The Antonov AN-24 aircraft, operated by Angara Airlines, was en route from Blagoveshchensk when it disappeared from radar during a second landing attempt.
The
burning wreckage was discovered on a remote forested mountain slope, about 16
kilometers from Tynda. Rescue teams arriving by helicopter reported no signs of
survivors. Harsh terrain has hindered access, with ground teams and aircraft
deployed to assist in the ongoing recovery operation.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the crash. Initial reports confirm the aircraft lost contact shortly after initiating a go-around for a second landing. Angara Airlines has yet to issue an official statement.
