Doha: The Public
Prosecution, through its Institute of Criminal Studies, has organised a
regional training course on combating human trafficking in partnership with the
United Nations Centre for Documentation and Training in the Field of Human
Rights for Arab Countries and Southwest Asia. Titled "Combating the Crime
of Human Trafficking in Accordance with International Standards," the
course brought together 10 members of Qatar's Public Prosecution alongside 10
counterparts from across GCC countries.
The training covered the
legal framework for combating human trafficking, relevant international
conventions, and the nature and elements of the crime, including how it differs
from similar offences. It also examined the role of public prosecution
authorities in detecting and investigating trafficking cases, gathering
evidence, and ensuring effective prosecution.
The course aims to
strengthen participants' ability to apply international and national standards
in combating human trafficking, while building their skills in detection,
investigation and evidence-gathering, and reinforcing protections for victims
and witnesses. It also seeks to promote judicial cooperation and
knowledge-sharing among GCC states, offering participants the chance to draw on
Qatar's experience in the field.
The initiative aligns with recommendations adopted by GCC attorneys general calling for greater exchange of expertise and joint training programmes among member states' judicial institutes.
