Qatar calls for nationwide lights-off for Earth Hour 2026

Doha: Qatar’s Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MECC) has urged individuals and institutions to participate in Earth Hour tonight, March 28, by switching off lights and non-essential appliances from 8:30pm to 9:30pm.

In a statement released Saturday, the Ministry emphasized the important role of the community in protecting the environment and promoting sustainability. It noted that adopting responsible energy habits is essential for reducing the impact of climate change.

Earth Hour is a global initiative designed to raise awareness about preserving natural resources through the simple act of turning off unnecessary lighting for 60 minutes. The Ministry stated that Qatar’s ongoing participation shows its commitment to international climate efforts and helps strengthen environmental awareness throughout society.
