Qatar Museums launches three major exhibitions at Mathaf: celebrating modern and contemporary art

Doha, Qatar: Qatar Museums opened three major exhibitions at Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art, running from April 19 to August 9, 2025. The lineup features a survey of Qatari art from the 1960s to today, the first solo exhibition dedicated to late Qatari artist Wafa Al-Hamad, and an international showcase of film and video art from the Middle East, Africa, and Southeast Asia.

The exhibitions were inaugurated by HE Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, along with prominent dignitaries.

"Qatar: Close to My Soul, Art from the Collection of Abdulla bin Ali Al Thani" explores Qatari art’s evolution through themes of nature, society, and abstraction, displaying notable works like Faraj Daham's "Sealine Landscape" and Jameela Al-Shraim's "The Victory."

Simultaneously, "Wafa Al-Hamad: Sites of Imagination" showcases the artist’s vibrant, abstract works, emphasizing her influence and connections to other pioneering Arab women artists. Highlights include her "The Tower of Barzan" and "Optical Illusion."

Lastly, "Your Ghosts Are Mine: Expanded Cinemas, Amplified Voices" features over 40 filmmakers from the Arab world, Africa, and Southeast Asia, addressing themes of exile and migration across ten immersive sections originally shown at the 60th International Art Exhibition of the Venice Biennale in 2024.
