Riyadh: Saudi Energy Minister Prince
Abdulaziz bin Salman has said Saudi Arabia will overcome current challenges,
honour its international energy commitments, and continue advancing its
ambitious transformation.
Speaking at the opening of the 25th WPC
Energy Congress in Riyadh, Prince Abdulaziz said recent regional developments
and attacks on infrastructure had demonstrated that energy security could never
be taken for granted. He emphasised that resilience must be established long
before crises emerge rather than developed in response to disruptions.
The minister said Saudi Arabia had invested
for decades in spare production capacity, storage facilities, alternative
export routes, technology, domestic supply chains, and skilled personnel to
ensure the continuity and reliability of energy supplies. He stressed that the
Kingdom's ability to withstand disruptions and recover quickly reinforced its
position as a reliable partner in the global economy.
Prince Abdulaziz said energy resilience
should not be measured solely by production capacity or infrastructure, but
also by the ability to maintain operations, repair damaged infrastructure,
redirect supplies, and recover under pressure. He highlighted the strategic
importance of localising energy industries and supply chains, saying energy
security and the transformation of the global energy sector must advance
together.
The minister reaffirmed Saudi Arabia's commitment to implementing Vision 2030 and said the Kingdom would continue investing in reliable oil and gas supplies while expanding renewable energy, electricity grids, energy storage, and gas infrastructure, alongside accelerating lower-emission technologies and investing in human capital. The 25th WPC Energy Congress, held under the theme "Pathways to an Energy Future for All," marks the first time Saudi Arabia has hosted the event in its more than 90-year history and runs through October 15.
